Thank You. I have not been unaware of the ecological destruction that the US has caused in Viet Nam, but last night I viewed "Battle's Poison Cloud" and was deeply moved. When I saw you on the Veterans For Peace FB Page I knew I needed to get closer to you and the Work.
USMC 1968-1970, Air Wing, F-4J Phantom fire-control. I am not an in-country vet. I was discharged after 18 months as a Conscientious Objector.
Looking forward to seeing Viet Nam on my own terms one day and doing what I can to contribute to the healing work.
Thanks, Chuck -- I am really looking forward to the journey. Right now I am reading Myra MacPherson's "Long Time Passing" and Bao Ninh's "The Sorrow of War" -- both recommended by Chuck Searcy, both excellent. I also keep playing the Pimsleur Vietnamese language tapes, but, whew, not getting very far!
Thanks for admitting me although I am not sure if I quallify as I am not a veteran. Trying to contact Suel Jones. I am hoping to put together a container to send to an orphanage in Cambodia. Thought he might have ideas and input. I think he may be here in Alaska.
Thanks for letting me on board. I don't know if I am actually qualified as I am not a veteran. I lived in Cambodia for a few years...'92-'97 and dream of returning. I am hoping to get in contact with Suel Jones. I have not met him but have a friend in common...Tom Stone, whose brother was MIA in Cambodia...a journalist (with Sean Flynn).
I am trying to put together a container to ship to an orphanage in Cambodia and thought Suel might have some input.
Hello Chuck, Penfield is a suburb of Rochester, upstate NY. Thanks for letting me in the group. Trying to get in touch with Ken Herrmann lost his email. Ken helped me find my wife's family who we had lost touch with after the fall of the south (1975). We returned to nam in 2001 to see them. It was one of the hardest and best things I have ever done. My fondest memory is being told that the people of the village that we stayed in (Duc Linh) told my wife's family that they had thought all americans were stuck up but that I was friendly and not like they had thought.
Thank you, Chuck! I hope to visit there - but this year I'm still recovering from my 2010 move. There is a great anti-war group here in Keene - ongoing protests every weekend since 2003...Last week a big war, militarism and witnessing presentation at the Unitarian Church...
I am very happy to become a member of Vietnam Hoa Binh Chapter 160. Thank you very much, Mr. Chuck! Did the group arrive in Hanoi? I am Mrs. Toan's student and she has told me lots about you. I am looking forward to meeting you and the others soon.
Thank you, Chuck. It is my distinct plaeaure to be in such fine company.
I know your name well from vvaw.net.
Whatever an ecomically challenged man sitting in Arizona can do for you and this chapter, please at least give me a shot.
If you can hit big league pitching three times out of ten you'll probably be an All-Star. If you can hit nine out of ten free throws in the NBA you might or might not be an All-Star. But guys'll be glad they've got you on their team.
